“Breaking Bad” statues in New Mexico erect desires for idol worship in a drug-addicted country.
The irony of idol worship, drug addiction, and entertainment all rolled into one. No, not a joint, a needle, or a vial, but one topic. The only thing America loves more than drugs is celebrities and entertainment. The relationship between drugs and entertainment is a match made in heaven. A recipe to completely escape our “boring” lives that we take for granted. One distraction isn’t enough. We must combine them because we’re unsure how to deal with life. Therefore, belief in GOD being at an all-time low shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, the most successful treatment is the 12-step program which happens to be faith-based. Essentially Americans have traded in religious GODs for fictional characters and entertainers that don’t even know they exist. Let’s briefly explore how “Breaking Bad” statues in New Mexico erect desires for idol worship in a drug-addicted country.
Imagine if church members were to drink wine and dance drunk in the name of Jesus today, it would go viral, and not in a good way. Despite prophets seeing and hearing all kinds of “visions” in the bible, mixing religion and substances would seem dangerous today. However, at some level, genetically, we all want to worship GOD, which is why we get tattoos. Just as the Hindu deity Shiva danced to create and to destroy, there is something inside of us that must be expressed. Creation and destruction are opposites of the same coin; both are expressions.
Frequently, drug usage brings out our best creativity until it kills us. Like God, we want to create so bad, and so much, that we will create until we are destroyed. Until we destroy ourselves. Overdosing, fatal or not, it’s as if we came to earth with the urge to leave. As soon as we arrive, we’re crying. All religions and major spiritual systems tell us this earth is not our home but a temporary place for us.
Ultimately due to the disinformation on the origins of Christianity, many people won’t get drunk for Jesus as they would for Dionysus. Furthermore, Alcohol is forbidden in Islam while viewed through a more complex lens for Jews. What can we expect people to do if they aren’t taught to consume intoxicants for religious worship, which may be embedded in us? We can expect people to get high and entertain themselves instead.
Humans are dying to communicate and establish a relationship with God. Not through the church, a bible, koran, temples, or other places of worship, but drug usage. To be fair, this has been going on for thousands of years. A book titled “the immortality key” traces the origins of Christianity to the worship of Dionysus. Dionysis is the Greco-roman God for wine, fruit, vegetation, and ecstasy. The holy communion that Catholics and Christians participate in stems from the ritualistic celebration of the worship of Dionysus. Wine drinking and dancing were ways to express this reverence for this deity.
You see, “Breaking bad” statues are being erected because we’re excited about being thoroughly entertained. Not just for entertainment’s sake but to distract us from our thoughts, worries, and anxieties. Essentially, it’s not about the entertainment but how well it distracts us. How deep and otherworldly can our distractions take us? And we overdose on entertainment just like we do on drugs, and recent studies have shown that a sedentary lifestyle is extremely dangerous. It’s no coincidence that the state and city “breaking bad” was shot in is near the top in the country for substance abuse.
A Man prayed to a wooden God to no avail. One day he threw the idol so hard it broke and inside he found coins. Strange way to answer prayers.
The man and the wooden God
People expect religion to give them profit.
In conclusion, as the Buddha told us, we continue to escape rather than deal with life and understand that there will be suffering. We ask our GOD what he or she can do for us rather than ask ourselves what we can do for ourselves. “Breaking bad” statues in New Mexico is just the beginning; soon, famous social media influencers will have status erected. As the flames of morality and religious doctrine continue to burn, expect more and more extreme desires for escapism.
