Grammy rating signal decline of idol worship
Idol worship reached new heights when it’s influenced by capitalism. Why do we give away awards for music in the first place? Who determines who is placed in charge to determine who wins? Does a single award to one artist indirectly promote capitalism?
Someone had to mix the music, arrange the production; do they get prizes as well? And if so, why aren’t they recognized by the Grammys in the nominees? Because often they aren’t worshiped as idols.Â
Celebrity isn’t just harmless fun – it’s the smiling face of the corporate machine.
George Monbiot
For example; The Artist is promoted and marketed towards their demographic base. Artist is the ones being interviewed in front of the camera. They have the “personality” to appeal to their fans.
However, Just limiting the artist to the rapper or single does injustice to the music itself. As if mixing and producing weren’t an art form. If It were, more artists would be creating more of their own work.
These small nuances seem insignificant until we realize America is running off of fanatics who are loyal to a brand. The minds of most citizens are too impatient to care about the art form of mixing and production. This singularity of focus permeates our perception of reality.
Instances included but not limited to are;1:1 relationships as opposed to polyamory. Picking the best or favorite of anything rather than seeing the whole. Every medical field fails to see healing as a holistic treatment. Idol worship includes many celebrities but only one can be the “best”.
With music being an art form, this makes the process of choosing the best even more confusing. Add politics to the mix, and there’s no surprise why rappers have been boycotting the Grammys for decades. The more pop culture accepts an artist, the better the chance for winning. Since we did the masses become the measuring stick for what is the best?
Notice there as never been an award for a best independent rap album. The underground of any genre will always be the platform for the integrity of its sound. If the grammy’s or any award show were concerned about the art of music, then surely the underground artist would get their appreciation.
But that never happens. Possibly because underground artist often lacks star appeal or are to complex for the masses to appreciate or understand.Â
Next, why are we seeking validation from people and a system that never validated us in the first place? The Grammys can mask itself as an award ceremony that essentially dictates who will influence society.
Consciously you think you’re watching an award show. Just like the super bowl half time show, the entertainment will distract you. However, essentially the Grammy’s is an auction/lottery for who determines and affects a specific agenda for the nation.
The irony of the Grammy’s lowest ratings this year is that while it signals a decline for celebrity worship. Unfortunately, people are transferring their idol worship energy to social media, and eventually, those people will get awards. Thus the cycle continues.
This is the product of generations of the crack era, opioid era, and gender war era influence. Who has time to raise children when we’re on drugs and getting a divorce while struggling to make ends meet? Â
The ethics of the Grammys shouldn’t be the only thing in question. The entire framework of why, how, and who we give awards to in the first place needs to be rearranged. Furthermore, realizing how star appeal has replaced the actual music should be alarming to us all, but it isn’t.Â
In conclusion, Least we forget star appeal equals more influence on the masses. Through social media, an artist can develop more of a relationship with their fan base. The greatest illusion is we think we are using our free will to determine who and what we like. When in reality, were acting out a program determined by decades of accolades and validation by those who could care less.
