There are no winners in professional sports
As kids, professional athletes practice game-winning shots in their backyards for years. In the hope of winning a championship and beating the competition is a desire for half of their lives. Ironically the REAL game being played on the Athlete is often never played on the court. Find out why there are no winners in professional sports, for fans or athletes or anyone for that matter.
Gene Smith, athletic director of Ohio State, says that if a game isn’t safe for fans, why would it be safe for players in the arena? This brings home the point that players are disposable for the most part.
Fox Sports analyst Chris Broussard and Rob Parker have a significant segment on the greed of sports owners during this pandemic. The analyst detail how UFC owner Dana white has an island to continue UFC fights. Meanwhile, during spring training, the MLB wants to put players at risk and have all 30 teams play in empty arenas. When players would rather spend time with their families during the pandemic.
The analyst further explains that the ticket puncher and those who sell food at the concession stand will be unemployed. These are seasonal employees who work in a field where everyone makes at least six figures.
The global value of sports media is 60 billion dollars; this is huge coming from the most prominent global sports media outlet analyst. And this is why there are no winners in professional sports.
When William Rhoden’s 40 million dollar slave book was released, many felt the author overly exaggerated his claim. How can slaves be rich? With reports of many NBA players living check to check income doesn’t determine a slave, the mindset does. From concession workers to ticket Pucher, to the valet parkers to the players themselves are all slaves to their wages to an extent.
Meanwhile, the fans are a slave to their desire to be entertained and distracted. And this is why there are no winners in professional sports. When the team wins, so do the fans.
Wrong. Spike Lee has spent over 10 million dollars as a Knicks season ticket holder. After being denied the employee entrance, Lee voiced his frustration on ESPN. Lee is the most recognized celebrity fanatic of our lifetime. If his team won’t respect and acknowledge him, how do you think Owners feel about the ordinary citizen?
Lee was infamous for his Jordan commercials, which is the most popular shoe of all time. But what is the game without bright lights and thousands of fans screaming at the top of their lungs? Without the t.v. Contracts, endorsements, and shoe deal the NBA is an entertaining open gym.
Billion-dollar shoe companies besides Jordan exist because professional athletes wear them. Otherwise, they’re just shoes. The logo designs, Jerseys, and mascots hypnotize the fans even more.
What about those who aren’t fans? Or Those who can’t afford to attend the games, even in the nosebleed sections. People who want to make ends meet and have alternative ways to entertain themselves. Most of them will be surprised that their footing the bill for sports fans.
Taxpayers often finance stadiums. When children are struggling to learn in schools that can’t afford renovations, thank your mayor and sports teams.
The Cleveland Cavaliers finished the renovation for their arena, yet the city still has thousands of dilapidated buildings and a failing school system. Ironically, Frank Jackson, the mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, promised renovated gyms for schools across the city.
Which continued the cycle of sports being more relevant and vital than an education, which never in a million years be true.
In conclusion, the NBA season being up in the air means a champion may not be crowned this season. As a result, two things are likely to happen simultaneously. First, fans will be even more excited when the season returns. Secondly, some fans will realize that sports entertainment wasn’t that important to them and will become more casual fans.
While fame, status, and money are appealing to most, only a select few will achieve it. Even a smaller few will win a championship. At best, most fans receive a little hit of dopamine from their teams who will never win a championship in their lifetimes.
And if they do win, the fans receive nothing financially or spiritually. And this is why there is no winners in professional sports.
